New racewood customer; the metropolitan mounted police
This week, the installation team headed to London to deliver an Interactive Dressage Simulator to the Metropolitan Police Mounted Branch.
The mounted police branch patrol London’s main parks, guard ceremonial events and control crowds at public gatherings. Just as the horses need specialist training for these sometimes unpredictable situations, the riders do too. Becoming an accomplished and confident rider is paramount to their role as an officer.
Dressage Simulator Training in the Police
The simulator was installed at one of the specialist training centres. Here it will be used to train novice riders looking to join the branch, as well as current mounted police officers.
Training Sergeant Carly Harber explains that using a simulator will help to ease the burden placed on their class horses by complete novice riders. Unlike the real thing, the simulator can provide hours of (non-weather dependent) practise without compromising the horse.
Equally, for the existing mounted officers, the immediate feedback on the interactive screen will provide them with information on their weight distribution in the saddle and use of the leg aids. These skills are vital for an officer who may need to encourage a horse to enter challenging and volatile situations.
Once the simulator was installed in its new home, Racewood simulator coach Lottie provided onsite training to several of the officers. Lottie is a key component to the installation process and she demonstrates the various features and helps customers become familiar with the simulator and its software, so that they can get the very best out of their simulator.
