Queen’s Award for Wormwood Scrubs

queens awardWe have lots of admiration for our friends at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre in London, who have just recently been honourd with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre is an inner city community riding centre, run by a dedicated team of volunteers, for children and young people, many of whom have physical and learning disabilities.

Very recently, they unveiled a new ‘stable yard classroom’ to help encourage and teach their young members about horses and riding, this included; 2 donkeys, equine bones and an equestrian display. They also installed a brand new fully interactive Dressage Simulator as part of their equine therapy. The new classroom was even opened by special guest Clare Balding who is a firm supporter of RDA.

Congratulations Wormwood Scrubs, from everyone here at the Racewood team.

Here’s she is - the first to ride the new simulator!!

Horse Simulators : A History

Horse Simulators are no longer a novelty anymore, not really. These days we are manufacturing horse simulators for every discipline, every riding style and even every budget.  But I wanted to know how far they date back. Who made the very first horse simulator? Was it us? Determined to prove that it was, I was in fact proved wrong. Thanks to my investigative skills and the ability to spend hours trawling the internet aimlessly I found some pretty interesting, albeit weird stuff..

Hercules the Horse Action Saddle: The heroically named, 4 ft high and rather ridiculous looking contraption was apparently the answer to gout, indigestion and appetite (insatiable or lack of was unclear). Most importantly, it was claimed to be ‘good for the spirits’ and it even offered a side saddle option for the ladies. (See photo above)

Horse Simulator fitness of the 1900′s: Yes believe it or not, luxury cruise liners like the Titanic and the Cunard in 1900’s boasted gymnasiums for their 1st class passengers with equipment such as weights, rowing machines, exercise bikes and of course.. The ‘electric horse-riding simulator’!

So there you have it, we were actually beaten to the post. HOWEVER, I like to think our fully interactive and programmable equestrian simulators are an improvement somewhat…

New Dressage Simulator in Sydney

At long last… Sydney finally gets the Dressage Simulator!

After several (and what feels like very long!) weeks, the Dressage Simulator (still to be named I believe) has finally arrived at its new home.

Sydney Horse is a state of the art equestrian facility in NSW, Australia that offers anything from riding lessons for beginners, to coach training, to corporate packages and team building activities!

With indoor and outdoor arenas, a 4km riding trail in Centennial Park and shower/coffee making facilities, this to us sounds more like a retreat than an equestrian centre! Now with the arrival of their latest edition, Syndey Horse will now be offering intensive training sessions on the ‘perfect horse’.. a 15.2hands shiny black, Grand Prix level simulator designed to give instant feedback on all aspects of performance and help to build confidence.

For more information about Sydney Horse, visit: http://www.sydneyhorse.com.au/

Our first Trotting Simulator en route to Sweden!….

With 33 tracks across the country and 1,000 race meets each year, it’s clear to see that trotting is one of Sweden’s biggest and most exciting sports.

So when we were approached by Svensk Travsport (the Swedish Trotting Association) to build for them a bespoke trotting simulator, complete with sulky, we couldn’t wait to get started.

A couple of months later and we have now shipped our first ever, and eagerly awaited, Trotting Simulator to Stockholm.

What we had not anticipated though, was the reaction to this new product! During some routine checks with a local trotting team at Tir Prince, the feedback we received was astounding – so we can’t wait to share with you over the coming weeks some more videos and pictures of the new Trotting Simulator… watch this space!

Special thanks to our guests from both Svensk Travsport and Le Trotter Francais, and Tir Prince for their hospitality.

For many, the new year brings with it lots of new challenges as well as exciting ventures. For us, one of our next key dates is Equitana Essen in March, and I am very excited to announce that we will be showcasing the new (and much anticipated) 3 Day Eventing Simulator at the show.

This new simulator will be offering visitors at the show a chance to:

Analyse their performance

Challenge their physical fitness

Deliver the perfect performance

Chose between Cross Country, Show Jumping or Dressage

This is the world’s first simulator of its kind, using exciting new flight simulation to replicate the movement of a 15hand horse whether it is to perform intricate dressage steps, to clearing 1.2m fences on fast paced and unpredictable cross country course.

Equitana is an incredible busy event, so if you are interested in test riding our brand new model, please do contact us direct before hand to book your session.

The Jumping Simulator at Al Fares 2014, Dubai

bill and a sheikh

Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Dubai, for the 10th edition of the international equine fair, Al Fares. Many thanks to all involved for making the event a success, the response we received to the Jumping Simulator was fantastic.

It was a particularly important event for us, as once again we were demonstrating our new Jumping Simulator. Rasheed Mbayed, Exhibition Manager, said of the simulator “The recent technology boom has had a great impact on equestrian sports. We are delighted that the newest Jumping Simulator, that provides the ultimate interactive jumping experience, was launched from Dubai at Al Fares.”

Here is Racewood’s Bill Greenwood meeting HH Sheikh Hasher Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, Director General, Dubai Department of Information, who opened the 10th edition of the international equine fair.

Stuck for Christmas Gift Ideas…..?

RaceTraineer Cut out pic tablet cut out pic with dial change

Do you have a budding jockey in the family? The next Frankie Dettori?

It is that time of year again. When we desperately try to think of ways to better last year’s gift idea of socks and coffee table books that, whilst they look good, remain unread and used as a mug coaster until they’re wrapped up again and passed on to an unsuspecting victim (who bought you a present and you didn’t buy them one). Look no further.

The Racetrainer is a brand new jockey training tool designed in conjunction with the lead trainers at the Injured Jockey Fund, and used by professionals across the world.

The Racetrainer challenges jockeys physically, whilst promoting healthy weight loss by improving stamina and overall fitness. The RT is designed to work all the key muscles as well as core strength.

Not for the faint hearted… but definitely the new must have fitness tool for those determined to be at the best physical fitness they can be.

Fully built, no fitting to the floor and next day delivery available.

Merry Christmas from RW
